Transport Ministry Begins Road Safety Awareness Campaign in Schools

As part of the implementation arrangement of the road safety work plan, the  Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MoTWI) has got  approval from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) to conduct a road safety sensitisation campaign in piloted  schools beginning  Monday, june 13th and ending on Friday 24th June 2022.

The activity will mainly target schools along the main highways in the Greater Banjul Area (GBA) and West Coast Region (WCR). The sensitisation programme aims at improving road user attitudes and behaviour among school-going children, who frequently use the roads.

The campaign will be conducted by the road safety working group sub-committee on advocacy and education, which comprises different stakeholders.

During this period, students and teachers of the targeted schools will be exposed to the institutional frame of road safety, interpretation of road traffic signs, first aid demonstration and training of childrenon how to cross Zebra crossings, as well as lessons on the prevention of road traffic crashes.
