Jeddah (UNA) - The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) praised the outcomes of the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC countries regarding the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, which was held on Tuesday (March 5, 2024) at the headquarters of the OIC’s General Secretariat in Jeddah.
UNA Acting Director General, Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, praised the contents of the resolution issued by the meeting, which affirmed the strong condemnation of the unprecedented comprehensive barbaric aggression against civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip and the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory and called for an or an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and cessation of the all-out aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
He also noted the CFM’s emphasis on the importance of supporting the media monitoring unit emanating from the recent extraordinary joint Arab and Islamic summit to exercise its duties in monitoring all violations of international humanitarian law committed by Israel.
UNA Director-General indicated that the meeting reflects the keenness of the headquarters country, President of the Islamic Summit, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the OIC member states to support the Palestinian cause and advocate for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, most notably the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al-Yami expressed his gratitude for the session’s praise for the outcomes of the International Forum “The Role of Media in Inciting Hatred and Violence: Risks of Misinformation and Bias,” which was organized by the Union in cooperation with the General Secretariat for Corporate Communication of the Muslim World League on November 26, 2023 in Jeddah, and included a special topic on “Prejudice and Misinformation in the international media: The Palestinian issue is an example.”
He noted that the forum comes within the framework of the Union’s efforts to activate the media’s role in championing the Palestinian issue.
