Banjul, 27th February 2025: The Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery has organised a five-day trainers training on Service Process Simplification (SPS). The capacity building initiative came through a South-South Cooperation Agreement entered into between the Governments of Bangladesh and The Gambia. The training is being conducted by ‘Aspire to Innovate’ (a2i), under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology of the Republic of Bangladesh.
Service Process Simplification is a process of reviewing and updating the current service delivery procedures and protocols of government office with the aim of simplifying and making them more user-friendly and efficient.
Presiding over the opening ceremony of the training on Monday at a local Hotel in Kololi, Hon. Baboucarr Bouy, Minister of Public Service highlighted the key benefits of the SPS as follows: reducing the lengthiness in decision-making, implementing citizen-friendly service methods, fulfilling the multiple demands of citizens, ensuring simplification before digitalization, improving the quality of services and attaining citizen satisfaction.
He therefore stated that the training is critical to ensure improved service delivery and citizens delight, as well as the foundation for successful digitalisation across government institutions.
The Minister noted that the partnership with the Bangladeshi Ministry underscores the strong bond that exists between the Governments of Bangladesh and The Gambia. He commended a2i for agreeing to help The Gambia replicate their hugely successful MyGov platform where citizens access hundreds of government services online; and while also commended the Government of Bangladesh for their support and collaboration with the Government of The Gambia.
He revealed that Government of The Gambia has agreed to start with the following five services: birth certificate, ID card, passport, drivers’ licence and business registration.
Hon. Bouy urged participants to seize the opportunity and gain the required skills that would take them through the journey.
Director General, Communication and Digital Economy at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Mr. Lang Loum gave update on MyGov status.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Pateh Jah chaired the opening ceremony, while Mr. Abdullah Al Fahim, Head of Project Management, aspire to Innovate (a2i) under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology Bangladesh explained a2i’s mission in The Gambia.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by the Permanent Secretaries, at PMO and the Ministry of Public Service, Lamin Jawara and Sheriff Jallow respectively.
