Gambia, a Pivot in Dynamics of ECOWAS - Visiting Nigerian Foreign Minister

The Vice President of The Gambia, H.E. Mohammed B.S. Jallow last week received the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and his delegation at State House in Banjul. The Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister was accompanied to State House by his Gambian counterpart Dr. Mamadou Tangara, and Mr Alieu Njie Secretary to Cabinet. On the purpose of his visit, Minister Tuggar informed that he was in Banjul as an ECOWAS envoy to discuss regional matters and as Nigerian Foreign Affairs minister to engage in bilateral discussions with The Gambia.

He emphasised the importance of strengthening the regional bond, describing The Gambia as one of the central pivots in the dynamics of ECOWAS. He underscored that continued dialogue and cultural exchange are vital to deepening the relationship between member states. The Vice President, in turn, expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that it avails the opportunity to discuss potential avenues to further enhance bilateral relations. He offered suggestions as ECOWAS prepares for the forthcoming summit, emphasising The Gambia’s commitment to collaborative efforts within the region. Minister Tuggar expressed satisfaction with the Vice President’s warm reception, describing the meeting as both brotherly and fruitful The discussions mark a promising step forward in the ongoing partnership between The Gambia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the broader ECOWAS community.
