His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Friday received at his home village of Mankamang kunda, in the Upper River Region, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, former President of Somalia.

Speaking to the press after the meeting President Barrow expressed gratitude for the visit of his brother and friend, as he calls him. “When I was told that he was coming to visit me at my home village, I asked to make him know that my village is about 324 km away from the capital, but he insisted on coming; saying it was important for him to meet me for us to discuss issues about Africa and see how best we can collaborate,” he revealed.  He described Mr Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmad as an ambassador for Africa. “We are so grateful to him; we thank him for all the efforts and support that he has been giving to African presidents and Africa as a continent,” President Barrow asserted.

Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed made known that The Gambia is his second home; that this was the second time he was visiting The Gambia. “I want to thank him for his ever-readiness to receive us. As he said, we talked about how to develop Africa because Africa has been left behind. We must work hard to move forward for prosperity, peace, justice and develop our country,” the ex-president remarked.
