The Vice President H.E. Mohammed B.S. Jallow, on October 3rd led the Gambian delegation to Republic of France to participate in the 19th Francophonie Summit. He was welcomed at the Villers-Cotterêts by President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, as well as Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the Francophonie organisation.
During the visit, the Vice President met with the Gambian Ambassador to address key diplomatic challenges, including enhancing embassy operations. The delegation also met with the local mayor, who expressed support for the Gambian community, and held a town hall with the Gambian diaspora.
Issues discussed included consular services, diaspora representation, and the need for a permanent embassy building. The Vice President urged the embassy to explore financial strategies for long-term stability.
VP Jallow and his delegation attended a dinner at the Élysée Palace hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Held on 4 and 5 October 2024, representatives of more than 100 States and Governments took part in the 19th Francophonie Summit in Villers-Cotterêts on the theme, “Making a Better World”.
The “Making a Better World” Francophonie Festival aims to offer cooperation and solutions in the face of global challenges.
