Energy Minister Receives Special Congressional Commendation for Transformative Leadership


Banjul, 27th February 2025: The Honorable Minister of Petroleum, Energy, and Mines, Nani Juwara, has been honoured with a special congressional commendation from the State of South Carolina, USA. This prestigious recognition celebrates his exceptional leadership and contributions to The Gambia’s energy, petroleum, and mining sector.
The commendation was presented during the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards, held in Morocco. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Lamin Camara, received the honour on behalf of the Honorable Minister at the ceremony. This international recognition underscores The Gambia’s remarkable progress in energy security, petroleum exploration, and responsible mineral resource management.
Under Minister Juwara’s leadership, The Gambia has made significant strides in modernising and strengthening its energy infrastructure.
One of the country’s most recent milestones is the successful inauguration of the 225KV transmission line from Brikama to Jabang, the first national high-voltage infrastructure project. This achievement is set to enhance electricity distribution, improve regional power connectivity, and boost energy stability across the nation.
In the petroleum sector, Hon. Juwara has played a pivotal role in attracting investment and advancing exploration efforts to unlock The Gambia’s potential. His strategic initiatives have positioned the country as an emerging hub for energy development in West Africa.
Hon. Juwara has also spearheaded regulatory advancements in the mining sector, including implementing the Quarrying Regulations 2024. These regulations are designed to promote responsible mining practices, environmental sustainability, and compliance with international standards.
With a vision focused on sustainability, economic prosperity, and energy independence, Hon. Nani Juwara continues to shape The Gambia’s role as a key player in the region’s energy and natural resource sectors. His leadership is driving transformation, fostering investment, and ensuring a future of reliable energy access for all Gambians.
