Ebrima Singhateh, a young Gambian international football player speaks to Gambia Daily Sports about his improbable journey to stardom and his new professional exploration in the Czech league.
Born and brought up in Baddibu Sabaa in The Gambia’s North Bank Region, Ebrima moved to Kombo and played for Kunkujang Friends and Falcons. He also played Nawettan in Medina Tallinding. In 2019, he had a breakthrough into the Gambian First Division, playing for the historic club of Real De Banjul. He spent two and a half years with Real before his adventure to Estonia Paide Linnameeskod, where he had a seven-year spell.
Singhateh also played for Slara Praha, then Leam and then for Vlasim and Sigma Olomouc.
The former under-20 Gambia international recently moved to the Czech Republic.
In this interview, the Gambian international said he only had a call to play for The Gambia at cadet level when he travelled, signed first professional football contract and was doing well. This was when I got a call to represent my country at under 20 level and this made me very happy,’’ he said.
He said his biggest achievement is being a professional footballer playing in a top league.
On the distinction between Estonian league and Czech league, Singhateh said the Czech league is far ahead of the Estonia league. However, he said moving from Gambia to Estonia league was a great leap.
He said his dream is to play for senior national squad but understands that it depends on his performance.
“As a young player in The Gambia, you have to be patient and work hard; that is what football is all about - determination and hard work. You have to be discipline if you want to achieve your dream in football,’’ he advised.
He finally called for greater investment in football, emphasizing that football is all about investment.
