The Minister of Defence has recently received in audience the international consultant for the Defence Policy of The Gambia, Professor Ann Fitz Gerald, who also doubles as  a  professor of International Security from Canada; and the chairman of the drafting committee for the strategic plan.

The discussions focused on the progress made so far on the development of a 5-year strategic plan for the implementation of the Defence Policy.

The meeting allowed the team to discuss the achievements registered so far and the way forward in relation to the Security Sector Reform recommendations for the defence sector.

Speaking on the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Rohie Bittaye Darboe thanked the Government of the United Kingdom and the British High Commission for funding the development of these important documents. PS Darboe further expressed gratitude to Prof. Ann for her invaluable inputs to the mentioned documents.
